Today, an appointment with your doctor is often very complicated, even if you only want to get some relief from the symptoms of a cold or the flu. Insurance plan requirements, the amount of time it may take to even get an appointment, lab tests and other diagnostic procedures, and, in general, the minimal “one-on-one” time with your doctor increases the stress, and sometimes disappointment, with a medical appointment. The nature of the medical system today often leads to a feeling of frustration and disappointment no matter how much you personally like your doctor.

Learn how you can increase your satisfaction and minimize your frustration by making the most of your next visit with your doctor.  Jean Anderson, Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), who has spent her entire career in various roles in medicine, will offer some suggestions on how to increase the value of your visits with your doctor. As a FNP she has worked in private medical practices in the area and most recently as a FNP with Kaiser Permanente in Falls Church. Her topics will include:

• A brief look at what happens behind-the-scenes in a doctor’s office and how this impacts your time with the doctor

• How to prepare for a visit with your doctor, regardless of whether it is an initial meet and greet, an annual physical, or an appointment for a medical issue that you want to have taken care of, and, equally important, what to avoid during the visit.

•  Why, and how, you should keep your personal medical record

Join us for light refreshments at 7 with the presentation starting at 7:30.

This program was organized by the West End 50 group of neighborhoods which include Arlington Forest, Boulevard Manor and Glencarlyn.
