Recently, fourteen Arlington Neighborhood Villages members enjoyed a day at the beautiful Hillwood Estate. The weather couldn’t have been better for strolling the grounds of the estate of Marjorie Merriweather Post to see the gardens just coming into bloom and the fabulous greenhouse.
The highlight was a docent-led tour of the house and Mrs. Post’s extensive collection of Russian imperial art, French eighteenth-century decorative art, furniture, apparel, and accessories. The day began with an introductory film to learn more about Mrs. Post and how she developed her collection, followed by a lunch in the Cafe, a walk through the special exhibit of decorative containers, and then the house tour. Hillwood is truly a hidden gem in northwest Washington; a splendid time was had by all.
