Walking Tour of Clifton, VA with ANV Member, Anne Webb
May 2 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am

Join historian and ANV member, Anne Webb as she leads us on a walking tour of historic Old Town Clifton, Virginia. The town of Clifton has been in existence since the 1700s – initially as a plantation. The railroad started Clifton and during the Civil War the town was known as Devereux Station. In 1869, a post office was established and the town of Clifton Station started growing with stores, schools and a community feeling. Today, many feel that the town has maintained the charm and feeling of a Norman Rockwell painting.
We will begin our tour at the Clifton Presbyterian Church, 12748 Richards Lane, Clifton, VA 20124 and then walk to the historic center of Clifton. Free parking is available in the church parking lot. The focus of our visit at the Church will be the many woodcarvings done by Anne’s father-in-law, General Willard Webb. We will then walk along main street and stop at several points of interest to learn about the history of Clifton and its notable buildings. The tour will require walking and standing for approximately one hour. There is also a hill to and from the church parking lot. Following the tour, we will have lunch at a nearby restaurant, Rosemary’s Thyme Bistro for those who want to join us. Menu items include a variety of sandwiches, salads, kebobs, and pastas with a price range from $10-$15. The complete menu can be found at www.rosemarysthyme.com/VA/menus/brunch. Please RSVP by April 24. You may RSVP by replying to this email at (register@arlnvil.org) or by calling the office at 703-509-8057 – be sure to include the name of the event, and name of each attendee, along with their email and/or phone number. You need to RSVP for the tour and also let us know if you will be joining us for lunch. ANV will arrange carpooling for those who need a ride. When RSVP’ing, please indicate if a ride is needed or you are willing to drive. Open to members and volunteers.
